Stevenshage offers boarding services for dogs, cats and other animals. Do you want to see where your pet will stay? You are most welcome to visit our boarding kennels and cattery by appointment during opening hours. Bring along your pet’s vaccination records so we can immediately check them with our inoculation requirements.

Dogs

We have separate boarding kennels for dogs. Each dog has its own indoor kennel with adjacent covered outdoor area. Twice a day the dogs spend an hour in the outdoor run to allow thorough cleaning of the indoor kennel. They are taken out for a walk on-leash twice daily in the neighbourhood and lake area close to our facilities, so they get ample personal attention, physical exercise and playtime. In addition, we have a large fenced-in wooded area (our ‘speelbos’), where the dogs can run and play, by themselves or in small groups.

Cats

In our cattery we have three pleasant rooms for cats, with baskets, scratching posts and climbing poles. Upon arrival, the cats are kept in separate cages for a while, so they can get used to their new surroundings. Once they are settled in nicely, they are allowed to move around freely in the room, as long as they behave sociably towards the other cats. Usually this does not pose a problem. A covered outdoor run is connected to all three catteries, enabling the cats to enjoy some fresh air or to find a spot for sunbathing.

Other animals

We have limited space available for birds. They need to be brought in their own cages. We currently don’t offer boarding services for rabbits and rodents. For those animals, we can warmly recommend the following locations:

Knaagdierenpension De Blaarkop in Nieuwe Wetering
Knaagdierenhotel Hupsa-Keetje in Voorhout
Dierenhotel Pocahondas in Abbenes en Amsterdam
Knaagdierencentrum Poelgeest in Warmond
Muffins Konijnenopvang in Den Haag
Knabbeltuintje in Den Haag – Kijkduin

Booking for boarding services

Booking is possible by phone, by email or in person at our facilities. You will receive a booking confirmation at your home address confirming your and your pet’s details and the reserved period. This confirmation is written in Dutch. Please do not hesitate to contact us for an explanation in English. Please check the confirmation thoroughly, especially our inoculation requirements. If your pet’s vaccinations are not up-to-date we cannot accept it into our kennels!

Payment

Daily charges can be found at our Rates page. During holiday periods we will request a deposit. This will be half of the total amount and guarantees your booking. Information on how to submit your payment will be sent to you along with your confirmation. As soon as we received your payment, your booking is guaranteed. If we do not receive your payment 30 days prior to your pet’s stay (60 days for reservations during Summer holidays), we may have to give your place to someone else.

Cancellation

If you cancel your booking after submitting your payment to us, you will receive a refund, minus a €10 handling fee. However, if you cancel within 30 days prior to your booking date, we will not refund your deposit. Exceptions to this rule are at the discretion of the management.

Opening hours for bringing and picking up your pet

You can bring and pick up your pet(s) during our regular opening hours, every day between 10.00 and 10.15 hrs and on Sundays and public holidays also between 16.00 and 16.15 hrs. These hours exclusively apply to customers bringing and picking up their pets staying in our boarding kennels and cattery.

What to bring with you?

Your pet’s vaccination records, the booking confirmation and medication, if any. In the event of any medical problems occurring during your pet’s stay, we will consult our regular vet. Any veterinary expenses will be added to your account. If your pet has special dietary requirements, it is usually advisable that you provide these yourself. Please consult one of our staff members to discuss this before your pet comes to stay with us. All our guests will be provided with all creature comforts of home, i.e. blankets, beds, toys etc. You are of course welcome to bring your own, however, we cannot accept responsibility for items that are damaged or lost.

Inoculation requirements

To assure the health and happiness of all animals, it is vital that inoculations are up-to-date.

Dogs need to be vaccinated against distemper and parvovirus (no longer than 3 years ago), against Weil’s disease (no longer than 1 year ago) and against kennel cough (vaccination via nose drops Nobivac or Bronchi Shield, no longer than 1 year ago).

Cats need to be vaccinated against gastroenteritis (no longer than 3 years ago) and cat flu (no longer than 1 year ago). Additionally, the cat needs to have had its yearly booster on time during the last 3 years. If the latter is not the case, the vaccination against cat flu needs to be given twice with a three-week interval.

Should your vet have any queries regarding our protocol, please let him or her contact our vet: De Keerhoeve Voorschoten, tel. 071-56 13 836. All inoculations need to have been given at least 2 weeks prior to arrival at our boarding kennels and cattery. When in doubt, please contact a staff member. Remember that your pet cannot stay with us if its vaccinations are not current!
